Oops

There's a quite sharp uphill hairpin bend and the tractor unit lost traction and had to decouple I suppose it ran back there almost out of control.
It's a modest sized dumper about 3 tons?
Would it have helped if it had been further forward it is somewhat in front of the trailer wheels.
(A169 Saltersgate not Sutton Bank A170 where unfortunate things happen 2 or 3 times a week)

Like you say, drive the dumper up onto the swan neck and crack on

Some lorry units the handbrake only works the front axle, yes the foot brake locks all, but if he pulled the handbrake on and jumped out, the lorry might have had different ideas

I saw a pic today, he'd yoked up again pointing downhill and away presumably to go the long way round by Scarborough. Dumper still in the middle 🙄

Dog chewed the handbrake cable! Electric cable or steel wire🙄
There's no fecking way a dog can chew through a handbrake cable, there dam near impossible to cut!!!
As for electric handbrakes , just more dumb shit that adds weight and unnecessary complexity into vehicles.
Driving cars used to be fun , but now there just another glorified characterless appliance.

Network Rail don't take kindly to trains being stopped, contractors get something like a grand a minute fine for over-running works. Then there's the damage to the gates and house and 2 dozen railworkers in hi-viz standing about to pay for. Do you think he's gonna say he forgot to put the brake on? Probably took a hacksaw to it before anyone came.
I have to remind myself to use the "dumb shit" now and again so it doesn't seize up. Park is good enough in these flat lands

I can’t see how a dog could get at a handbrake cable unless there was a load of trim missing- more likely the unattended dog has managed to release the (electric?) handbrake. Surely the driver of the car would still be liable for that?

Similarly, personally I wouldn’t have a dog in the tractor/loader cab (plenty of stories about dogs pushing levers etc)- even easier to do in this era of electronic controls. Plenty do though.

Sometimes its actually best to say the truth, as telling bull.shite will undermine any arguement/debate or discussion at a later point in time and make the driver comparable to being a cockwomble.
That said maybe the engine has a wet belt and its fecked and this was a way to get it written off so he could collect the insurance???
