Electric cars

Recovery program on the tellybox the other night "Trucking Hell", the featured firm went to a transporter fire. Burnt cars had to be craned off and sat in the dunk tank for xxx minutes each. Wouldn't like to say they were milking the job but a crane, tanks, skips, umpteen men, I can see insurance going through the roof, hopefully not for ICE cars

too late ,all types of insurance is thru roof

Was in local bearing place for a lawnmower belt.
They do a lot of gearbox rebuilds too.
They say local auto trade (north east) are financially petrified of electric car problems.
The modern auto gearboxes in ice cars are marvellous but will be the end of many cars at 6-8 years old. There are just too many little cogs and solenoids.

Just below their article is a link to another about how hard they are to put out.
It may well be true that petrol engine vehicles have more fires (usually electrical in origin) but they aren't going to burn uncontrollably for many hours incinerating anything else in 50ft radius.

I'd say that 75% of petrol car fires are a direct result of inadequate maintenance and or user stupidity, 15% due to animal/bird residence like squirrel nut storage (a real and major problem here) and the remainder rodent damage.
That said all vehicles here (mine) carry at least 1 fire extinguisher.
As a general rule petrol cars under 25 years old are fairly hard to catch fire.

Fair Charge, a campaign group for electric vehicles, described it as “misinformation erroneously shaping public policy”.

Welcome to our world!
Its actually true, they are one's creating the deception and misinformation that electric cars are safe and environmentally friendly, current battery technology is as safe as carrying diesel/urea and a detonater.

Reality starts to bite.

The trouble is, quotas don’t work any better in Britain than they did in communist Russia. EVs have some serious problems: the range is not good enough, we have not built enough charging points to power them, the repair bills are expensive, the insurance ruinous, and second hand prices are plummeting. Once all raw materials and transport costs are factored in, they may not be much better for the environment.

I'm at the stage they can say what they want, believe what they want and can "tell" everyone what we must do....but,

I don't give a feck and seriously doubt I ever buy a Ford , new GM or Tesla product....because

In order to save the environment I'll use and maintain what I've already have as that's the most environmentally sustainable , not buying new and definitely not buying "electric".
Bugger , guess that means using early 80's Mitsubishi's for the next 40 years.

And the irony that the green ute should be good for 35mpg.
