popular machines that were actually crap.

Yep, fair few still doing a days work up this way
I remember a lad from back in the south lakes , he bought a pup from us and commented on our 1494,
The farm he was at had four 1394’s they loved them!

I grew up with a 1394, it was not great, 1494 to me appears to be what the 1394 should have been

to be fair I haven’t been in a 13, but honestly they are rated up here. Maybe a bit of brand loyalty as they were chucked together just over the hill, I swear our 14 was built on a Friday afternoon just before a bank holiday

It must have been just in front of one we had.

Davy brown die hard s must have been ecstatic when they started making them 90 series
No more need to be a contortionist to get in the cabs

our first “proper “ tractor was a case international 885 grand little thing , but the climb over the tunnel to get in the stockman cab was a pain ( literally)

The cab on them was actually not too bad, provided you weren't excessive in either height, width or diameter.
Ours was just totally unreliable from day one. An X reg it was.

Was a few tarrups about Burgess,s being agents probably put many off
Saying that mowers where very popular
Not a lot of jf,s round us , the universal dealer I mentioned had the agency and Dad did actually buy one of him when I had a steep learning curve with the jag 40 we had at the time ( I have never ignored that little thud going through a mower again )
New Holland were not overly popular either despite the 2 main ford dealers in area selling huge amounts of tractors

NH got a boost with the introduction of the metal detector, the NH 819 was quite a beast with hp on the front.
The JD 3760 and 3765 was a tidy well built machine for the upto 120hp folk, it could also munch metal and be back in the swathe with a quick reset of the blades. It was a noisy old thing though, with quite a distinctive tone.
The taruup 10x was a hungry for grass machine, pile on the hp and it could clear some grass. Its biggest fault was the reverse mechanism on the feed, and the setting of the knife to shear bar clearance.

They were all built on Fridays I'd say

Good tractor, but the high/low/reverse doesn't float my boat

ours had shuttle on the dash, it made a handy little yard tractor, it came with an ancient alo loader which I put tonnes of weld on 😲
Bought for 4500 and sold after four years for 3500
Any way we digress.... yes as in your post IW trailers , especially with the thrown in finger trap ie sheep decks

Had loads of horticultural/ veg equipment over the years that didn't really work. Strawberry straw layer that couldn't handle barley straw. Leek washer that wouldn't wash Leeks ( unless they were pre washed by hand  ) Various planters that wouldn't plant, and so on.......

Dad worked for Bruera Agricultural services in the late seventies delivering machinery I was still at school and would go with him when ever I could, they sold loads of jag 60's and 40's and had a yard full of old/part ex ones as well, I seem to remember they (Bruera) made some sort of bogey for the trailer hitch to transfer weight  @fingermouse might know more
Deutz Fahr fh900 very popular in this area cheshire back in the day great machines
